There’s lots of people in the United Kingdom and, statistically speaking, 42% of the men have beards — some of these people are celebrities and have somewhat of an impact on the popularity of on certain styles.
Think about how there was an influx of people walking around with a beard when David Beckham started rocking one at the end of the noughties.
Becks isn’t top dog any more and there are a new host of celebrities in the mix now and they’re having an impact on the types of beards we are seeing on the streets.
First off, let’s take Chiwetel Ejiofor, winner of the British Academy Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his part in 12 Years a Slave.
His facial hair is almost as impressive as his accomplishments in film, sporting a full beard to bring attention to his powerful jawline.
Modern music star Zayn Malik has, to me, always been the more exciting member of One Direction — when he was still with the band; he seems the more vocally impressive singer and the more fashionable of the group.
Zayn clearly takes pride in his appearance and rocks the look most lads around his age are trying, the well-shaped-just-a-bit-longer-than-stubble beard. The above photo is when the singer decided to let it grow out a little bit more than usual.
This style of facial hair is typical of those with an oval face shape — read more about that here.
Let’s more onto a universal name — Tom Hiddleston; the actor most recently won a Golden Globe for his work on the BBC’s The Night Manager but is perhaps best known for portraying Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He’s not best known for his facial hair, especially when he stars alongside Thor, but Hiddleston has definitely played a part in the popularity of goatees in the UK. The Daily Mail report that back in 2015 the goatee was the second most popular style of facial hair in the country.
Next up is Sir Patrick Stewart, a man who has been in the limelight since the late 80s for his work in the Star Trek series — and later for his recurring voice-acting for roles in Family Guy and American Dad.
It’s been difficult trying to source an image of Sir Pat with his beard but the closest I found is shown above — click here for a better idea of what I’m talking about.
Sir Pat looks incredible for his age and has likely done wonders for facial hair on older gentlemen in the UK by sporting the popular goatee on more than one occasion.
